I know you guys are familiar with the story.
Does anybody else here watch, and like the show?
Any thoughts or comments?...... Here are a few of mine.
Phil was hired by A&E who knew he is a Christian fundamentalist.
The comments were made to GQ. Why should A&E care about what Phil says to some other media outlet?
Miley Cyrus made disparaging comments about old Jewish men to the website Hunger TV. This did not affect Miley’s relationship with the networks that carry her music.
It's a "reality show." If you don't like the reality of Phil Robertson, don't watch the show.
The family says they can't see going on with the show without Phil. If they bail on A&E, another network will pick them up, and they'll be back on the air within a year.

Yeah, Mrs and I both watch and frankly think it's a hoot. We both consider Phil the sane one.
We don't like the way this has gone but A&E made a business decision as a privately held company, First Amendment doesn't apply.
That said, nothing says we have to continue supporting A&E through supporting their sponsors.
Now, have you guys noticed how most other stories have either disappeared or faded into the background, including Obamacare and the diplomatic crisis with India? This thing has knocked everything else nearly completely off the media radar.

This is a demonstration of the power of a small but vocal activist lobby who seek to make deviance normative.
Not to worry. THEY will make you choices for you from the moral high ground of gay bars and pride parades.
Damn them.

Can I fire someone who openly supports gay marriage?

Can I fire someone who openly supports gay marriage? Only if they cause serious disruptions in the workplace. But DON'T use their views as the reason, use their incompetence instead.

"You can say some stupid stuff -- whether it's Paula Deen dropping the N-word, Alec Baldwin dropping the F-word, Jesse Jackson using a derogatory word for Jewish people as he talks about New York City -- or Bobby Knight infamously saying, "'I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.'' -- and the First Amendment will keep you from going to jail. But it is not a get-out-of-jail-free card in the eyes of society. And if you don't believe me -- try walking into your boss' office and call him or her a big fat idiot with ugly children. Then see if "freedom of speech" helps you keep your job." www.cnn.com/2013/12/19/opinion/granderson-duck-dynasty/index.html?hpt=po_r1

Huckabee, a pastor, also weighed in on controversial comments by “Duck Dynasty” TV star Phil Robertson in an interview with GQ magazine about same-sex marriage, saying that homosexuality is as much of a sin as lust. "I think it's come to a point in our culture where political correctness has made it so if you want to take a point of view that is traditional, that holds to a steadfast, old-fashioned biblical, Christian values - which are also, by the way, values of traditional Judaism and even Islam - and somehow you're just supposed to shut up and keep that to yourself," he said, noting President Barack Obama's changed in position on the issue. Huckabee pointed to a "new level of bullying on the part of these militant activist groups,” as reason for Robertson's suspension by A&E, referring to groups like the Human Rights Campaign, which urged the network to suspend the star. But Huckabee conceded that Robertson's comments would have been "more appropriate for the duck woods than it would be for the pages of a major news magazine." politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/12/22/huckabee-puts-chances-of-a-2016-run-at-50-50-wades-into-duck-dynasty-controversy/?hpt=po_c2

Yes, I remember when America was a "free country".
And having lived that way all my life, the last thing I need is for someone else to tell me how it should be done.
I don't like either homosexuals or rednecks much (homosexuals, because I don't agree with their sexual practices, and rednecks, because most of them don't like ME much), but I have always allowed both of them to do as they please, so long as both of them abide by the law, and leave me to hell alone.
The entire argument is really about that, you see. I remember when Americans actually were allowed to be Christians, or rednecks, or homosexuals, or Communists, or anything else they wanted to be, as long as they simply kept it to themselves, lived their own lives, and let everyone else do the same.
The fact is that when someone leans on someone's right to be who and what they are, you are going to have trouble.
That's why A & E leaned on Duck Dynasty's patriarch, who subscribed to an opinion that put down homosexuals and then put it out on cable television for everyone in the reach of the A & E channel's broadcast.
THAT took a lot of intelligence.
The A & E gays, on the other hand, while their opinion was objectionable, to say the least, didn't put anyone down for being who and what they are.
As long as they leave me alone, I don't care.
Two guys in a bar sitting next to each other. One guy looks at the other, and says,
"Granted, I believe in equal opportunity for everybody, regardless of race, color, creed, age, nationality, sex, or sexual preference...
...but would you mind taking your hand off of my ass?"

Amen warrior, amen! "Just lemme alone." "Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins."
TC, Cracker Barrel folded like a lawn chair when their decision to remove "Duck Dynasty" merchandise from their gift shops very quickly translated into negative impact on the bottom line, something few restaurants or restaurant chains can afford.
