So here it is.
Use this board to discuss war games and gaming.
Talk about you favorite platforms and scenarios to your heart's content.
Anyone can start a thread but it may be easier if we stick to one conflict per thread although I'm open to suggestions.
Let's have fun with this one!

Thanks, Mate!
Much appreciated.
I started "gaming" with the old stuff. RISK, Milton Bradley's BROADSIDE (War of 1812 naval) and BATTLE CRY (Civil War army). Man, did I just give away my age. Also STRATEGO. I guess I've been playingf wargames ever since in one fashion or another.
AVALON HILL produced a LOT of good stuff.
And then came computers.
Hooooo, BOY.

I used to have quite a collection of Avalon Hill games, hard to remember all the titles.
Midway and Blitzkrieg were probably my favorites although Arab-Israeli Wars could be interesting. That may have been one of the first to use a modular board setup.
I had some others from Strategic Simulations, Inc.(SSI) that sometimes blurred the line between realism and playability.
One thing I did find, if you beat the cheese out of people too many times, they won't play with you again.
True with Scrabble as well.

I always wished that the Avalon Hill games had been computerized, however. the level of deatil is something I admired greatly, and in most cases the deatil was historically accurate. I miss them.

DAMN you. I am going to spend a HELLUVA lot of money on this. (If my wife doesn't kill me FIRST, that is....) Just kidding. My only regret is that I can't explore these with YOU guys. I've played some like "War at Sea" and "Tactics' (which is a great way to lear how to play the REST of them, by the way), and can't wait to play the ones I HAVEN'T played. Thanks, Old Friend. -A Warrior from 1972

Man, back in the day, my old roommate and I played so much Risk that we started making up our own rules. Like the "Nuclear Strike", where a roll of triple sixes wiped all the enemy armies off the country you were attacking.

It was the first of the AH genre, unique in that its board was marked in squares rather than hexagons, which made movement a bit herky-jerky. Its too bad they wont lend themselves to distance play...not that I have the space to set up and play a prolonged game or anything.
