We don't acquire territory. As Colin Powell said, we only ask for the ground to bury our troops. You forgot to consider the second half of that definition there.

You forgot to consider the second half of that definition there. We don't have political hegemony over the world. Or perhaps you weren't paying attention when numerous nations objected to our invasion of Iraq.

It means we have hegemony over them? What about countries that decided to go to war with us but are now pulling out of Iraq? The United States is powerful enough where it can serve its best interests without other nations, but we have NOT reached the point where we can force other nations to do our will simply by domination. If you want an example of a hegemon, look at the Soviet Union.
