Thanks Cam.
I am not logging in 'cos those damned sharks started up again last night so I'll just lurk for a while.
re: your NYLI question - not since 2001.

Well if you should ever get out this way again give a heads up, and I would gladly buy you a cup of coffee.

Thank you all for the thoughts, the colourful displays - most impressive - and the easy reading, 101 They are all greatly appreciated. I'm no Canuk, Tittus, and anything but freezing at over 40degC. Merc: I feel 20 years younger. 101: It seems the holiday from the cyber-sharks that plagued me on THC is over. On THC I could not get in more than two posts before getting locked down. The SOBs revealed themselves at the Outpost at 16:18 EST [EDT] on 8 Sept. I have the images to substantiate that. I have another set of images from today - the fourth time I have detected my 'shadows' on the Outpost - and I am building a post to show them to you. I believe they are primarily local yokels in, or adjunct to, the region's 'cultural police' that control and monitor everything in and out of the Internet but with possible assistance from one of the region's largest external spy operations that is based in the United Arab Emirates. "Al Dahfra A B: Serves as a major intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR hub) for the 380th Air Expeditionary wing. KC-10, U-2s, and Global Hawk aircraft operate from this location. The Combined Air Warfare Training Center set up by the UAE, U.S., Britain, and France is a Gulf States training facility." - Report of the Commission on Review of Overseas Military Facility Structure of the United States, May 2005, Appendix G. Besides scanning, they seldom interfere with traffic to generic sites but chat rooms and discussion boards are of prime interest. The stupid thing is that instead of simply sitting back and collecting data, every so often they start probing and playing the fool with active connections. That's when my alarms go off. The most persistent SOB so far purports to be based in Trigen Energy Corporation in White Plains but I doubt these suckers are using their real IP. Interesting times we live in.

Hi again. A note for the techies: I use no personal proxy and my machine browser cache is purged in full every time I start and stop it, and even between surfing different sites when online. The only proxy is the one enforced by the country 'cultural police'. All times are EST [EDT] rendered by the TOOTLC server. A Shark story: It starts at Date 9 Sept. Time 10:29pm Opened up browser to TOOTLC and checked the Stats and online users. Hit refresh only to be presented with the page last stored in the 'cultural police' proxy cache - timed as at 02:51pm, i.e. the last time I was in the site. Note changes in the stats and users area. Time: 10:35 Hit refresh again to get the current proxy page. 'I' am now seen as a second Guest. Time: 10:46 Hit refresh again to see Guests are down to one. Now I look at the 10 last posts. Time: 10:51 After reading I go 'Back' and refresh again. The refresh hangs badly for 20 seconds! It clears with another refresh and Voila - three Guests! My shadow has arrived. Time: 11:46 After creating and posting my previous reply, it is back again [or still there from a hour before]. Note my posting timed at 11:45. I have observed this exact same 'Guest' pattern when reading the last 10 posts each time I visited the TOOTLC since 16:18 on 8 Sept, each occasion being accompanied by a sharp upsurge of undesirable packets against my firewalls. If this is not local then the site on which TOOTLC is hosted has a particularly nosy 'bot', or at least a trigger to fire one off in my direction. Last time I logged in [8 Sept] the browser was totally frozen and I had to pull the cable and zap it from the OS to free it up - just like I had to when logged in to THC. At least by lurking here and posting the odd reply I can keep reasonable track of what's happenin'. What fun! Paranoid? You betcha! Nobody probes firewalls for a good reason.

Googlebots will follow you around this site.
Probably harmless but who knows?
