While I was over at THC, I went on a tear.
This post I originally intended to be a reply to Damn Yankee., but made it into its own thing instead. It's a little crazy; just unrefined creativity on my part, I guess. But I thought you guys might want to see it:
I hear so much talk of "ideology" thrown around this forum--
There is the "WASP ideology," HistoryMinor's favorite target. "Repbulican ideology" "Democrat ideology," "Right-Wing extremist ideology," "Left-wing extremist ideology," etc., etc., etc.
The thing that strikes me most is, though, that it seems that there's a new ideology emerging. Damn Yankee's post, and the marches on Washington this past weekend, are perfect examples of what I'm talking about.
It seems that the old Left-Right lines of battle are dissolving more and more every day. We saw David Duke, after all, extending his hand of solidarity to Cindy Sheehan while she was doing her ditch sit-in in Texas last month.
The new opposition, it's becoming more and more clear to me, is between the kooks (whether right-wing or left-wing) and everybody else.
This weekend, all the disaffected, those whose "ideologies," (or viewpoints, if you prefer) have been rightfully marginalized by a liberal society came together to put on a show of their weirdness, whether that weirdness resides on the outside or "upstairs," or both.
The news media, ever suckers for a flashy show, ate it up, and did the best they could to legitimize their point of view.
Americans, it was never the Nazis alone who were your enemy, nor was it the KKK, or the Communists, the Black Panthers, or even the Islamo-fascists.
It was, and in some way that is only now becoming clear, always was some weird combination of all those elements.
It was the International Brotherhood of Moonbats, in all its colorful varieties, united in their hatred of the values that our country stands on, and dedicated to one sort of utopian pipe dream or another, and willing to smash anything that stood in the way of its dark advent, that threatened you.
