Well that is news to my ears. The southern third of Somalia was looking more and more like it was in the early stages of becoming either another Afghanistan, or worse, another Iran. The Ethiopian troops have run of the militia and retaken some towns that the militia had taken. With this in play it should give the UN-backed government a better barganing position FROM THE ARTICLE: The group's often severe interpretation of Islam is reminiscent, to some, of Afghanistan's Taliban regime — ousted by a U.S.-led campaign in late 2001 for harboring Osama bin Laden. The U.S. government says four al-Qaida leaders, believed to be behind the 1998 bombing of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, are now leaders in the Islamic militia..........
...........On the southern front, government troops captured Dinsor, the government spokesman, Dinari, said. On the northern front, government and Ethiopian troops entered Bulo Barde, where just two weeks ago an Islamic cleric said anyone who did not pray five times a day would be executednews.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061226/ap_on_re_af/somalia

Holy cow. The TFG and the Ethiopians whipped the shit out of the Islamits in about 3-4 days. This movement was supposed to be unstoppable and this fight was supposed to engulf Ethiopian troops and have reprisal attacks by suicide bombers, but before you can even blink the CIC has been driven out of Mogadishu and are clinging to life on the southern tip of Somalia. Now let see if they follow through and completely finish them off. www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/africa/12/28/somalia.reut/index.htmls
