Most of you know me from THC. Although I consider myself a liberal, I'm really sort of a liberal, as are my friends - i.e. I believe strongly in the Death Penalty, victim rights, strong law enforcement, have no problem with effective torture AS LONG AS YOU DON'T VIDEO TAPE IT FOR CHRISSAKES, am concerned with illegal immigration.
I am anti any religion shoving itself in my face, with a special place reserved for Islam, which I think sucks in all but it's most secular forms and maybe even then.
Not big on evangelicals either and am an Anti-Zionist.
Raised Roman Catholic in an extended 4th generation Irish family. All males in my family plus an aunt served in the military in WWII (no one of Korea age).
I am a former Marine '67 to '69. Trained at MCRD, was then an MP at Lualualei, then off to Vietnam (Da Nang, then Quang Tri) where I was first a grunt and then a door gunner. Had the pleasure of serving at Khe Sanh among other things.
Was briefly in the FBI - Vice Narcotics in the early 70's - mostly heroin then. Then joined the D.C. police - assbackwards I know. Moved out to Littleton and was a police officer there for a few years then couldn't stand the boredom compared to D.C.
I got out and tried several business ventures, ending up as a security consultant.
Then one fine day @17 years ago I sold a system to a beautiful young woman opening an art gallery in Boulder. My idea of art at the time was the dogs playing poker around a table.
She was in the process of getting a divorce from her wimpy stockbroker husband and the next thing I knew I was ushered into a whole new world and my life changed forever. The best part then was she was the first person I could ever talk to about 'Nam and she really helped me get over some shit.
Now we travel a lot and, because of the unfortunate death of her father from pancreatic cancer, (he and I were pretty close ( he was a Forward Observer and in the Battle of the Bulge) she and her sister just inherited a rather substantial estate, which is why we'll be able to move again soon.
I have 5 kids from my first marriage . The oldest is 34 and works for NSA as a Russian translator. She is divorced and has a 5 year-old son. Second is a Captain in the Air Force Reserves full time and flies F-16s. He had a six week tour in 2003 in AF and Iraq, stationed in Qatar. He's scheduled to go back in August, this time stationed north of Bagdad - sucks. He has a one-year-old boy, and a girl due any minute.
My next was in the Colorado Air National Guard as a F-16 crew chief --his "tour" was up 2 weeks before his group was sent to Iraq. He a top salesman at a major Denver car dealership.
Next is another daughter who has had some problems, including a brief marriage that produced a now 4-year-old boy.
Last is a son, age 23 who just graduated from CSU and is training to be a firefighter.
