A few extra kids get to go to UConn, and gang members get to compete with athletes for multimillion dollar jobs?!

I've never found any excuse for Basketball. Basketball is the sport I love and hate. I play it more than other sports, but that's just because it's easier to find players for that than say baseball. I love to play it, but the injuries that go with it, sprained ankles, jammed fingers, strained quadraceps get to me when they start to pile up. Oh well, I'll just go back out and play anyway when I'm healed. Can't help it.

I personally have always believed that MLB players are the pussies of pro sports. Have you ever seen so many "athletes" who miss games--or weeks--or months for bullshit like sore fingers or feet or because of "muscle" pulls?
I always thought that ALL the MLB phonies who wanted to go into "arbitration" for more money should be required to play just one single game of pro hockey. Problem over!
Then, the NHL players and owners proceed to fuck up pro hockey so there goes that idea!

I was a lifelong baseball fan who threw my hands up and walked away from season tickets after the last baseball players walkout. I think MLB would have been much better off if it had thrown open the gates for recruitment and brought up a bunch of minor leaguers and Japanese and Latin American players. Signed them to short term contracts and played out the season with the replacements. Would the quality of play have suffered? Probably. But you would have and two teams in every game made up of players who wanted to be there. The side benefit would be to sting the wallets of the crybaby players AND their freakin' agents. They've taken a wonderful sport that I loved for decades and flown it right into the ground. To hell with them all.

Oklahoma has AAA-baseball, and frankly I enjoy going to see the OKC Redhawks play, and OU when they play in OKC rather than Norman. Much better old fashion ball than the multimillion dollar prima donnas of 2005!

101, I am very surprised and a bit disappointed in your post. How can you not see the inherent value of basketball? Especially the NBA. Stop and think: where else would all those quasi and actual criminals be if not for basketball the support of white idiots who allow them to make a fortune for playing a mostly ghetto game? However, the upside is that this must save our cities a fortune not to have to incarcerate these pricks.

Not all basketball players are criminals, , black or otherwise. Basketball, like baseball and hockey, is being outsourced to foriegn players - Serbs, Nips, you name it. It's happening in ALL sports.
But, you do make an excellent point however. What would these people be doing otherwise if not for sports? Surely, some would be criminals. Why do we not apply this concept to our educational system - why do we not REQUIRE our nation's children to partcipate in school programs and athletics? Why do we not require idle adults to partcipate in civil and/or military service programs?

I know you have tolerance problems, but try to control it. Second, we don't REQUIRE our nations's children to participate in athletics or other programs because this is America and you can do what you want. The same goes for military and civil service. What is it with this totalitarian wet dream of yours?

What is it with this totalitarian wet dream of yours? Gee - we whine and moan about how our Nation's children are taking part in drug-fested orgies and wasting their lives away drinking, yet we do not have the courage to embark upon the one and only solution? Children cannot do "whatever they want". A child heavily involved in sports, volunteer projects, and other school-integrated programs will simply not have the time to drink, smoke, and have ungodly amounts of sex. It would further build him into a confident, responsible, mature, and capable individual. Is that not what we want for our Nation's children? Or are to continue to allow them to throw away their futures? That is my proposal to rectify those obvious problems. What is yours? In the words of a Marine, "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way."
