I was kinda surprised to find out they had American football teams in Germany when I was there. One of the things the Germans wanted to do when they came to America fall was go to an NFL game. They also have a big car race that is kind of like the Super Bowl as far as popularity goes.
When my friend was in Japan he was telling me that baseball is pretty big, and Sumo is still a big deal. He said one of the things to do on Saturday nights is to go to the Sumo matches.

If I ever get the oppurtunity to hang out there I'll have to make a note of checking that out. Baseball is very huge in Japan. I haven't attended a game but sufice it to say they take that sport with religious devotion. Sumo's get treated like kings as well. Before I leave I should make it a point to do those last things. See a baseball game, and a sumo match.
