I must come down on Far Rider's side on this one.
I don't personally know anyone who is a White Supremacist at heart.
I do, however, know a shit-load of people who willingly bend over backwards to PROVE their NOT a racist.
Whites are one needlessly guilt-ridden group.
However, what Steele says needs to happen is happening.
More and more, I am seeing White Americans stand up and say "ENOUGH! I am not going to walk around feeling guilty about racism when I am NOT a racist. I am through worrying about being called a racist when I am NOT. I am DONE with the hand-wringing and self-guilt everytime I hear that word. I'm not going to allows that word to be used as a TRUMP CARD against me anymore. I AM NOT GUILTY OF RACISM SIMPLY BECAUSE I AM A WHITE AMERICAN!"
That word (accusation) "racist" has been thrown around so damn much that it's beginning to wear thin. For better or worse, the constant and false claims of racism have cheapened the REAL ONES.
Some of us are getting past "race" and "guilt." Instead we're paying attention to (and responding to) peoples' "deeds" and "actions."
If someone is an idiot, a criminal or brilliant I'm willing to call them an "idiot," a "criminal" or "brilliant" regardless of their skin color.
