"It seems everyone here demands respect of their own opinions but refuses to respect the dissent of others. That's not a reflection of American tradition and culture, which the anti-immigrant stance here presumes it protects, but a siege mentality by an enemy it fears."
Another load of crap from you AP?
Respecting your opinion does not require anyone's agreement but that seems to be what you are seeking.
Bad news for you, AP.
You won't find agreement here on this one.
You will be given information that your opinion is uneducated, based in idealistic emotion and absract philosophies and ungrounded in reality.
The reality is that illegals from Mexico, China, Surinam, Ireland, or Bumfuk, Egypt have NO "natural right" to live, work, or set one foot across the sovereign border of the United States of America.
NONE, NADA, ZIO, ZILCH, ZERO. None at all.
Go meditate on that until it becomes clear to you.

I haven't asked anyone to agree with me. I have only asked them to provide evidence and reason in a counter-argument. Profanity and insults are neither.
I don't expect to. But I do expect that disagreement is done cordially and respectfully -- especially on a forum maintained by experienced, conservative, adults. There's no harm in being polite. If adults can't manage to be polite, they shouldn't expect the same behavior from anyone else.
That's not information. That's other people's opinions. Repeated accusations of "bullshit" and "moronic" is not information. They do not become more accurate or true with bold, all caps, or repetition. But if that is the course that is taken by someone else, then I will accord them the same lack of respect. It's a two-way street.
I disagree with many of the implications of that statement -- which I have clearly stated previously. The fact that I disagree with your opinion by no means suggests that I ought to "meditate" -- or even that "meditating" will somehow yield for me the same opinion it has for you.
A man must be excessively foolish, as well as uncharitable, who believes there is no virtue but on his own side. -- Joseph Addison

Your opinion, Sir is valueless.
Go peddle it somewhere else.
You might enjoy the Huffington Post.
I think you'll find some kindred spirits there.
And I think you'll feel more at home.
