While looking through the list of threads in this "The Conservative Gourmet" Forum, I saw that there was no general topic for desserts - perish the thought.
A "Desserts" thread ought to have many subcategories like: cakes, pies, candies, muffins LOL, brownies, cookies and the like, but since this one is only intended as a humble beginning of the subject, a general thread is all that is necessary to kick it off.
I'm still rounding up dessert recipes from a large compilation of three ring binders reorganized just this Spring, so, I'll start with a dessert drink I invented myself, although there are undoubtedly many others who'd already thought of it first.
This one's for people who love the combined flavors of orange and chocolate - and as a side note, the Israelis make an orange chocolate liqueur called "Sabra" that's great as an ice cream topping, either in a parfait or poured on top, or all by itself drunk straight from the bottle or from an appertif glass if one prefers.
Orange-Chocolate Ice Cream Float a/k/a "The Outpost Float"
Fill your largest favorite ice cream float glass about halfway up with Sunkist Orange Soda (or Diet Sunkist Orange Soda for the "low calorie" version)
Add two long squirts of Hershey's chocolate flavored syrup to the liquid (Or Hershey's Lite Chocolate Syrup if you prefer) and stir until mixed
Then add a large scoop or two of your favorite chocolate ice cream (noting here that vanilla ice cream works too)
Then top off the drink with more Sunkist Orange Soda, stick in a straw and a long-handled spoon.
And enjoy!
Also - You don't have to use Sunkist brand orange soda - it's the one I prefer, but if you substitute, be sure that it's with orange carbonated soda and not the orange flavored drinks with the pulp or your ice cream will curdle.
I hope others will add their favorite dessert recipes here too.
Personally, except for some very select entrees, it's my favorite part of a meal and am always looking to try more. ;D
