Hey Arethusa, In Austria, it was to Muehlbach for the skiing and then some time in Salzburg where we hiked up to the local castle and visited the Dom made famous by the Von Trapp "Sound of Music" story. LOL . . . I remember hiking up to that castle with my three y.o. strapped on the back, thinking it was nothing . . . then you get inside the first wall and it gets steeper. We took the tram down. Yup, did Garmisch once at the military hotel. I really enjoy staying there in the local German hotel more. The biergarten just down the street had a great lager that worked fine for me!!

Garmisch is a lovely town - we didn't make it to the biergarten, having biergartened plenty in Muenchen the day before. ;D We figured it wasn't Oktoberfest, but that it needed one anyway. Amazing the size of those steins - almost as big as a pitcher over here! And yes, the beer was delicious. Haven't had any that tasted as good since. Molson's Beer (not the ale) comes close. But not as close as the real thing. Thanks for sharing the memories and enjoy your Sunday and the week ahead. Arethusa

I been at Oktoberfest in Munich one time. It was to expensive. I rather enjoyed the small country fests. We has several Kirschfests near Nuernberg, and spring and Christmas markets right in town. Wife and I enjoyed once a while staying over night at castle Colmberg located south of us. Beside the hotel, their restaurant looked just like going back several centuries. The wooden benches and high chairs, decoration consisting of swords, spears, and old guns, etc., added flavor. They cooked fine venison dishes. I would love to go back.

Anybody remember these? _________________________ Nürnberger Bratwurst – Nuremberg's Distinctive Sausages Nuremberg is famous for its Nürnberger bratwurst which is traditionally grilled or roasted and served three abreast on a bun with mustard. Whether it is served “three in a bun”, on a plate with sauerkraut or with potato salad, the Nürnberger bratwurst is amongst the most popular fast food snacks in the Franconian metropolis. www.travelsignposts.com/Germany/food/bratwurst-nurnberger-bratwurst

I sure do remember crazt sexy. In 1974, me and couple MP's newly arrivals were told to go there. So we did. Walk through the passage and we got several propositions. After we got out, we went to the main street. Right on the corner was sitting woman on the steps. We did not think much about it, so we passed her. Immediately after we passed her, we hear from behind with deep manly voice; Come with me my man. We took off like bold of lightings and did not stop until couple blocks away from her.
Ratzenputz was a nasty stuff. I had one taste and every hair on my body stood up.
Well main street changed. There are not longer streets cars, now they have metro. Old 21st replacement looked liked bomb hit it.
