As the season enters its final stretch I find myself sometimes day dreaming as to how this October will play out.
For my Mets...it won't at all.
But I am a baseball fan and I want to hear what you all think about our national pastime. My predictions are :
American League
Orioles - East
Sox - Central
Rangers - West
WC Rays @ A's (A's Win)
National League
Nationals - East
Reds - Central
Giants - West
WC Cardinals @ Braves (Braves Win)
My World Series is Orioles @ Braves
Atlanta in 6.
Sorry dustdevil but the A's fall in the ALCS to the O's.

Sorry dustdevil but the A's fall in the ALCS to the O's. A very pleasantly surprising year for the A's. I didn't expect them to make this kind of push. My picks are similar to yours, but the Yankees will take the East, and the A's will play the O's in the wild card, winning a close one. For the ALDS, Yankees over Sox, Rangers over A's. ALCS, Rangers over Yankees. I love the A's, but Texas is lights out this year, they should be making a third consecutive trip to the WS this year. On the NL, I agree with your division and wild card winners, but your nuts if you think the braves are going to the world series. I'd take every other team to make it before them. For my NL WS pick I'd go with the Nats or the Reds making this world series matchup a very interesting one, but one where the Rangers finally break through and get their first series trophy. A well earned one for one of the best managers in the game, Ron Washington. -DD

Why so down on the Braves?
The offense is well balanced but the real strength is the pitching.
Tim Hudson is as reliable as they come, Medlen has been amazing, and Hanson has been very solid.
The bullpen is the key. Kimbrel is brilliant making every game this postseason an eight inning affair throw in Venters and O'Flaherty late and guys like Hudson Medlen and Hanson need only throw six or seven good innings.
I'm not sold on the Nats or Reds as of yet. The Nats with little to no postseason experience missing a young man who is responsible for 15 wins this year. Remember when the Reds were so good in 2010 and fell down in front of the Phillies including being no hit? They need to prove they are a real playoff threat.

By the way it is nice to see teams like Oakland, Baltimore, and up until recently Pittsburgh break through.
Have you been able to get to any A's games this year?

Valid points and to be honest, not following the Braves too closely, but I figure if they were any good they'd be challenging the Nats for the division, not scraping by and hoping to get a wild card berth. You're right the Nats have little experience, but as we saw with the Marlins in 2003, a young team built properly doesn't need experience to win it all. The Reds I think gained much from their experience in 2010 and I think that experience is what puts them up there this year. They play in a very competitive devision with the Cardnals, Breweres, and this years surprising Pirates so I like their chances of at least making the NLCS this year, if not breaking through and making it to the world series. just my two cents. BTW, good to have another fan to talk sports with. -DD

Yep, love seeing a rejuvinated fan base rewarded after so many years of sub par teams. As for the A's, I live on the east coast. The only real chance I get to see them is that one time a year they come to play the O's and I missed them this year. Maybe next year. -DD

Friggin amazing. With what we know now lets redo the picks. Wild Card Games tonite. Orioles over Rangers (Rangers are in a free fall right now and Orioles are pumped. I think they'll take it, but it's a hunch. Rangers still have way more talent.) Braves over Cardinals. (close call, I'm just picking the Braves to pick the Braves.) ALDS A's over Tigers in 4. Yankees over O's in 4 NLDS Nats over Braves in 5 Reds over Giants in 4 ALCS Yankees over A's in 5 NLCS Reds over Nats in 5 WS Reds over Yankees in 6 -DD

Tough break for the A's, but going against Verlander their defense would have had to be perfect and the Pitcher made a key error in the 5th when he missed a scoup of grounder allowing a run to score. Their was also a Tigers home run a few innings later, but I tend to believe had he got out of inning without the error, it changes the likelyhood of that homer.
So it goes, back at it tonite.
Go A's.

ALDS Athletics over Tigers in 5 Orioles over Yankees in 5 NLDS Cardinals over Nationals in 3 Giants over Reds in 5 ALCS Orioles over Athletics in 7 NLCS Giants over Cardinals in 6 World Series 2012 San Francisco Giants over Baltimore Orioles in Seven PS - This is my favorite time of the year!

If the A's beat Detroit, it'll have to be in 5.
GO TIGERS!

SOB, Tigers pulled it out.
Way to go MLB, the lower seed gets the first two games at home??? Now Oakland may get all of one game at home in the post season even though they had a better season then Detroit?
Doesn't make sense to me.

Great game by Oakland. Still can't get many runs on the board against the Tigers. Our defense and a great pitching effort by Anderson carried the day.
Some notes. Great catch by Crisp in the 1st, same with Cepedes in the 7th.
Not sure why we tried to have our catcher Derek Norton steal second in the bottom of the 5th. He's the number 8 hitter and last time I checked, catchers aren't usually the fasted men on the team. He was thrown out easily. I think it must have been a hit and run call that the hitter missed.
Another game in Oakland, the crowd was great last night and defenitely deserve one more night to enjoy the season. Lets see if there can't be a game five.
Oh, and thank God we finally beat the Tigers. Until this game the A's had lost seven consecutive postseason games to the Tigers.
