Jim Carrey: 'Assault Rifle' Owners Have 'Very Little in Their Body or Soul Worth Protecting'

Actor Jim Carrey said Saturday that anyone who has bought an “assault rifle” since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School retain little that is “worth protecting.”

“[Anyone] who would run out to buy an assault rifle after the Newtown massacre has very little left in their body or soul worth protecting,” said Carrey on Twitter, Feb. 2.

Gun sales have soared since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., which left 26 dead, including 20 first graders, as politicians have proposed stricter gun control legislation. Data released by the FBI showed a record number of background checks performed for gun purchases in December, increasing in 48 of the 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2012.

Some of the time firearms incidents are not helped so much by the authorities.

Several years ago just a few minutes after I arrived at work the police showed up at the door of the business with full tactical gear, Helmets, flack vests and M-4 carbines flash bangs and smoke grenades.

The cops closed everything down in the immediate area because a friend of mine who suffered from depression was off his meds and acting crazy. Sure the man was walking around his back yard carrying a Remington 700 30-06 rifle, but during that time he talked to one of his neighbors over his back fence for about ten minutes about lawn care. When the police arrived they evacuated everyone who lived close by and then instead of trying to communicate with the man they just waited around until he shot himself…. Problem solved.

But they do have a duty to bust you if you successfully use a firearm to defend yourself and your kids.

Also in DC, several years ago a woman living in an apartment with her kids was faced by a home invader. I forget if the dude was hopped up on something or not or was armed (likely was both) but she felt she and her kids were facing serious injury or death at his hands so she shot and killed him inside the apartment.

All of DC is a "gun free zone" so the District PD busted her for possession of a firearm and manslaughter. IIRC she was convicted.

I was stationed in DC for 2 years during the mid-70s, it was bad then and today I wouldn't move back there for any amount of money. I haven't been back in the city even to play tourist since.

Of course, courts be damned, DC has made other very restrictive gun measures, including banning all "bottom loaded" weapons. Fucking stupid.

Say it aint so Jim Carrey, one of my favorite all time comedians.

One thing I will say as far as his "litte left in their soul worth protecting" is to remind Jim how quick he was to dump his first wife as soon as he became famous. I like his comedy, but I don't think he has much room to talk about the worth of other people's souls.
