As the implementation dates draw ever closer for shooters in some states to turn over semi-auto rifles, give up magazines of a certain size, register heretofore unregistered firearms, and perhaps have guns confiscated, some observers are saying they expect that many gunowners will not comply with new local, state and federal gun rules. And some law-enforcement officials are saying they won’t enforce laws they believe infringe on the 2nd Amendment. “I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,” said President Brian Olesen with American Shooters Supply, among the biggest gun dealers in New York. (The New York Post) Sheriff John Cooke says he won’t enforce new gun-control measures in Weld County, which covers a large part of northeastern Colorado, and legal experts say he won’t be breaking the law. (The Saratogian) The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said it will not comply with the provision of New York’s new gun control law requiring mental health providers to report potentially dangerous individuals to state authorities. If the Federal government decides to take weapons and go after the owners, we may see blood bath. This could get very ugly.

As concerned as I am about the Feds, Pete, in the near term I'm far more worried about what the lunatics who run the asylum in Sacramento will do.

Not a chance. I'm a law abiding citizen and I'm not going to give up what I rightfully own just to make hypocrites hiding behind bodyguards feel better.

It is a complicated issue, only because to disregard the law could make one a felon and thus deprive one the right to own firearms.

"They are more than welcome to come and take my arms. I'll gladly give it all up, one bullet at a time." - Anon (paraphrased)
I've heard many say there isn't much the population at large in this country can do against the police and military. I think that claim is a bit odd considering the trouble a relative handful of untrained raghatted ragamuffins who knew the terrain gave our Army and Marines first in Iraq and now in Afghanistan and not necessarily only in urban areas like Fallujah.

Armed citizens can launch revolutions but have to win quickly if they lack effective external support. Logistics can be murder even to a popular movement.
