I watched the repeat of the Discovery Times Channel exposé: “Does Europe Really Hate Us? And found my emotions raging from extreme anger to frustration to true worry.
I strongly suggest watching this if you can. times.discovery.com/
General: A social psychologist said that there are four religions in France and much of Europe. Christianity, Judaism, Muslim, and Secularism with the later as the most prominent. That on any given Sunday or day, the churches will me almost empty, the Temples and Mosques nearly full, but .... The current laws make any outward sign of religious belief illegal. In France it is illegal to wear a cross or burka or yarmulke in a government building or school. Mr. Friedman posted about a dozen small group interviews with many nationalities, but all from the university sitting in Paris. Two groups spoke in terms that said volumes bout our dysfunctional relationship.
Americans and “BUSH” are stuck on God. Nearly universal, the people interviewed were repulsed by our use of the Bible and the references to God. Though most truly despise Bush, they pointed to the slogan on the dollar and the swearing in ceremonies using the Bible for the oath of office. One graduate student said that: “I don’t see any difference between Bush using the name of God in the fight of terror and Bin Laden using the name of Allah to send for suicide bombers.”
The other was an interview with two Muslim COEDs, both in burkas and one veiled. When asked if the children performing the suicide bombing were wrong, they both said no. “They are heroes!” “We were attacked and that is the only way we can fight back. Everyone knows that they will be elevated to the highest seats of honor in heaven.” Mr. Friedman then asked why is it ok to kill civilians and children. Both said the same tired mantra, We hate Bush.
The thing that scared me is that sociocultural psychology of belief perseverance led Adolph Hitler to lead the youth of German to war and acts of genocide. Sociocultural psychology of religion has no concrete black and white right or wrong, yet … the forcing of beliefs, such as the state religion of secularism with the belief perseverance is pushing us to an armed conflict with Europe. France has not been our friend since we pulled their butts out of the fire in 1917, but their open hostility toward the US will influence the next election. A John Kerry like Liberal will not stop the looming confrontation between the “new age secularism of EU socialism” with the traditional American democracy.
This scared me spitless.
Here is an excellent editorial on the piece: search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=discover%20times%20channel%20-%20Does%20Europe%20Hate%20Us?
