I just receive a letter from the Enlisted Association. They wrote what we the retirees may be faced with. For example:
New TRICARE fees including on TRICARE For Life increased.
Pressure on military retirees to use private health insurance.
Care offered at VA hospital to retirees CUT.
Annual COLA, CUT.
Commissaries CUT or eliminated.
Civilian pensions eliminated for retirees military serving in civil service. __________________________________________ Did anybody else received such letter.
Letter also states that Hagel has sent Congress a letter saying they could happen if Congress does not stop massive cuts that are part of the law that will go into effect in just a few weeks. To me, I could be wrong, it looks like blackmail used against us and congress. It seems to have something to do with Obamacare. What you think?

TRICARE Prime goes away for retirees Oct. 1 Impacts residents more than 40 miles from treatment January 14, 2013|By Tom Philpott The military's managed-care option TRICARE Prime, will end Oct. 1 for retirees, their family members and survivors who reside more than 40 miles from a military treatment facility or base closure site, TRICARE Management Activity announced last week. Most of the 171,400 beneficiaries will need to shift health coverage from Prime to TRICARE Standard, the military's fee-for-service health insurance option. For beneficiaries who use more than preventive health care during the year, the shift will mean higher out-of-pocket costs. articles.dailypress.com/2013-01-14/news/dp-nws--milupdate-0114-20130114_1_care-providers-tricare-standard-tricare-prime

More research showed the following information:
Apparently, the media got the wrong information on several accounts:
1. The Prime Service Areas being eliminated are with 100 miles of a military treatment facility, not 40 miles. It turns out that since we're 60 miles away, we're still Prime Eligible.
2. The plan to eliminate PSAs dates back to 2007. The TRICARE Rep I spoke with said the timing was "pure luck" -- and the ObamaCare connection is probably more of a coincidence.
Bad news: There appears to be no explanation of why retirees FARTHEST from a military treatment facility are being dropped. One would think the closer you are to a military hospital, the less need you have for the Prime service.
For the even more uninformed than me, there are more than one level of Tricare for military families and retirees. Ours is an HMO system that has premiums and co-pays just like the ones you have with your employer. However, our premiums would go up about 300% if we had to go to the Exchanges. Sigh of relief for my family but my heart goes out to those other service people being abandoned... And in this case, it's really not ObamaCare's fault
