Al-Zawahiri Warns Muslims In Syria Against Collaborating With Secularists, U.S. Supporters; Says Egyptian Scenario Is Proof Against Such Collaboration
On October 11, 2013, Al-Qaeda's media company, Al-Sahab, released an audio address by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri. The audio message - which is 16 minutes and 43 seconds long, is titled "Tawhid in Facing the Idol." Al-Zawahiri says that the killing of dozens of Egyptians following the ousting of President Muhammad Mursi by the Egyptian military serves as proof that the secular military establishment hates anything Islamic in the country. Addressing the mujahideen in Syria, Al-Zawahiri urges them to unite, and says their unity and subsequent establishment of an Islamic state will serve as a blow to the Safavid (Shi'ite) project in the region.
