Remains of Vietnam pilot found, ending family’s 45 year wait As 11-year-old Mitch McGouldrick made her way home from school to get some lunch, she didn’t realize her life was about to change. It seemed like any other day, but that all changed with a knock on the door. Mitch’s mother, Jacquelyn, received the news which all military families dread. Her husband’s B-57 bomber had been hit over Laos on 13/12/1968, the two officers said. Mitch’s father, Air Force Colonel Francis Jay McGouldrick Jr. was determined missing, with the officers unable to offer Jacquelyn no information about what had happened after her husband’s plane was struck down. Now 56-years-old, and called Mitch Guess, she remembers the fateful day when her family received the news. “She kept it all together,” she says of her mother. “The men told us they didn’t know much. They told us we would know something soon, that more information would come quickly. We thought, ‘Well, the next day or two. Then we’ll know.’” www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/remains-vietnam-pilot-found-ending-familys-45-year-wait.html
