LONDON — The sophisticated, military-style strike Wednesday on a French newspaper known for satirizing Islam staggered a continent already seething with anti-immigrant sentiments in some quarters, feeding far-right nationalist parties like France’s National Front. “This is a dangerous moment for European societies,” said Peter Neumann, director of the International Center for the Study of Radicalization at King’s College London. “With increasing radicalization among supporters of jihadist organizations and the white working class increasingly feeling disenfranchised and uncoupled from elites, things are coming to a head.” Read the rest here: www.nytimes.com/2015/01/08/world/europe/paris-attack-reflects-a-dangerous-moment-for-europe.html?_r=0

This wasn't a spur of the moment act of violence by a couple of disgruntled thugs, this has all the hallmarks of a well planned paramilitary op.
With 1 in 6 "Frenchmen" now being Muslim France is now well past the tipping point where Islamic Law is becoming the law of the land. There are more than 150 "No Go Zones" in France where French Police are not allowed, Period fucking dot.
The other 5 in 6 Frenchmen who aren't Muslim are now shit out of luck UNLESS the government grows a pair and moves against the Islamic movement.
I don't see that happening even after this. I am quietly glad my Father and Paternal Grandmother didn't live to see this. Grandma was a member of the Resistance during the German Occupation. I expect she is spinning in her grave with France being conquered yet again.

I hope the Frogs are mad as hell. They need to abolish the no-go zones and advise the residents that they are in France, not Algeria or Morocco and as such they are subject to French law and ONLY French law. Offer those who object a one way ticket to whatever Islamic hellhole they prefer. Send in the Gendarmes, backed up by armor if need be.
The rest of Europe had better wake TF up as well.

Agreed.
MI5 is warning that al Qaeda is preparing for more mass casualty attacks in England, the rest of Europe and over here as well. Are WE awake enough?
I tend to doubt it.

About the article, which is a good one:
I still remember watching the Trade Center towers fall on 9/11 with a good conservative friend of mine.
I asked, "What do you think will happen next?"
Answer: "We are at war, and, as usual, the Constitution we are trying to defend will be the first casualty. It won't die. It's too strong for that. But it is almost always wounded."
It's a balancing act, you see. In crisis mode, we tend to curtail some liberties in order to protect all of them.
It's nothing new.
The debate will go on, on both sides of the Atlantic.
But I think the primary concern is to be careful that we don't become too much like our enemies in the process of trying to defend ourselves against them.
If we do, then they have already won.
“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” ”Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.”
-Benjamin Franklin
Again: It's a balancing act. Defending Democracy and maintaining it at the same time isn't easy.
Having said that, I hope the French kick their ass.

2nd point first, it appears the French nailed their asses. Reports are both brothers are dead and the hostage surprisingly (to me) survived. I say that because as the SEALs say, "it sucks to be a hostage" especially of Islamists bent on martyrdom. At the 2nd site, the Kosher market, 4 hostages are dead but so is the Islamist.
1st point, yeah, that balancing act is difficult. We have to be on continuous guard for governmental overreach.
When will the next attacks take place, and where?
