Hey guys, been awhile. From what I can see things are more or less the same around here. Nothing wrong with that and it is nice to come back here and visit some old memories and see what you've all been up to.
As for me, the Navy as always has continued to keep me busy, but I have recently had the pleasure of transferring to Hawaii to an assignment where I'll likely have a bit more free time to enjoy the scenery, the beach, and of course the history. I'll see about visiting more often.
Take it easy

Hey DD! Hawaii is an old stomping ground of mine, spent 4 years there. Arrived as a batchelor PO3 and left as PO1 with a wife and daughter.
If you can tell us, where are you stationed there? I spent a year at Pearl in the basement of Shipyard Building 1 (Rochfort's codebreakers old offices) and 3 at the Comm Station outside Wahiawa.
As you've no doubt learned already, the cost of living is OMG!! but prices away from the tourist hangouts are a bit more reasonable. And it's real nice to hang out on the beach in the dead of winter most days.
Enjoy your stay bruddah. Try not to get too spoiled.

Not much traffic on and off base, and the work load is very manageable. Plus you have the Pacific aviation museum and the USS MISSOURI moored out here, way awesome. Yeah, you're not kidding about the cost of living out here, but thats why God created COLA, so at least there will be that to take the sting out. Also, considering the winter Norfolk just had, I was more then happy to take a trade of scenery. The wife is out here with me, and like me she enjoys the outdoors so we're looking forward to time at the beach and hiking up the hills. How are things for you and the Mrs back in Virginia?

We're recovering from winter which finally (I pray) has moved on finally. Health is good now though I'm beginning to think dirt is younger than me.
I understand there is a drawbridge/causeway crossing over to Ford Island now. When Mrs was stationed on Ford she either had to take a personnel launch from Fleet Landing to what was 3rd Fleet Landing on Ford or had to ride the car ferry from near where Bowfin is parked now to a dock near 3rd Fleet. She got permission to take her car over because the personnel launch Cox'ns didn't want women on the boat as pregnant as she was at the time.
Good memories there. When we were stationed there some of the better and less crowded beaches were on the west side of Oahu, on the far side of Barbers Point from Pearl, beyond the old Naval Magazine where the paved road ended. Similar on the North Shore, near the old Dillingham air field. Those beaches may still be off the beaten path for tourists if the state hasn't extended Farrington road out and around the Kaena point on the west end of the island.
You guys enjoy and build some good memories.

Glad toi hear your health is still holding up. No worries about the dirt, we all will have moments like that, or at least I'm starting to see more and more of that with the new Sailors that come into the service every year.
Yep, Ford Island does indeed have a bridge which connects it to Oahu. There was a 10K this past Saturday which started on the bridge, went onto and around Ford Island passing by the USS OKLAHOMA memorial, the MISSOURI and the UTAH before crossing the bridge again to the finish line. Awesome run.
The wife and I are starting to get into paddle boarding. We hit up a river near north beach a few weekends back. A lot of fun, so we'll probably keep doing that. Thanks, definitely looking forward to the memories.

I heard somebody talking about Leonards the other day. I think they were praising the donuts there or something.
I'll have to give them a try. Thanks for the link.

I've tried the loco moco. Actually my wife had one in San Diego a few years back and took to making them at home while we were still in Virginia. All in all very tasty, and fattening.
