The horrible tragedy last night that left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., probably could have been avoided. Like so many other attacks, the massacre took place in a gun-free zone, a place where the general public was banned from having guns. The gun-free zone obviously didn’t stop the killer from bringing a gun into the church. Indeed, the circumstantial evidence is strong that these killers don’t attack randomly; they keep picking the few gun-free zones to do virtually all their attacks. For some reason, people who would never put up a “gun-free zone” sign in front of their own homes, put up such signs for other sensitive areas that we would like to protect. Time after time, we see that these killers tell us they pick soft targets. With just two exceptions, from at least 1950, all the mass public shootings have occurred in these gun-free zones. From last summer’s mass public killers in Santa Barbara and Canada, to the Aurora movie theater shooter, these killers made it abundantly clear in their diaries or on Facebook how they avoided targets where people with guns could stop them. Yet the idiot libs are wetting themselves to add another brick to the wall of incremental disarmament of the American people.
As if disarming the law-abiding prevents lawbreakers from arming themselves.

Really?
I have a left-handed Randall .45 stainless steel Automatic for home defense, A Mossberg 12 gauge riot gun for SERIOUS home defense, and I caught a Galil .223 semi-automatic Assault rifle (I got lucky and got it cheap from someone who believes in maintenance) to complete the trilogy if things ever get hotter and heavier than the other two weapons.
And you can tell what I was aiming at by what I hit.
Yet, I don't find the idea of having to pack everywhere I go because the general public these days is crazier than a shithouse rat (and proves it frequently with incidents like this) very appealing.
These people were IN CHURCH. Was somebody supposed to be PACKING there?
You see, I think a kid should be able to go to school, or a person should be able to go to church, or see a movie (like the poor people who got shot less than five minutes away from my house for wanting to see Batman: The Dark Knight Rises) without the place turning into a goddamned shooting gallery.
Just a thought.

Oh, I agree, Warrior. We SHOULD be safe in our churches, schools, malls, airports, and theaters but it's becoming increasingly more difficult to believe that we'll be safe from lunatics, gangbangers, and wannabe jihadis.
I have never felt that I needed to go around armed and ready to shoot back but it's seeming more like a prudent thing to do these days.
Armed churchgoers may seem somewhat contradictory but, truth is, if just one of those folks had been able to shoot back, the little puke might have been dropped in his tracks and a number of needless deaths avoided.
While I never felt the need to concealed carry, I'll nonetheless be applying for a permit to do so as soon as current CA Reg. litigation is settled in the courts.
Personally, I think it sucks on steroids but as a certified senior who's showing (and feeling)his age, I prefer to NOT think, act, or live like a target.
Or a victim.

Just a thought. I agree fully old friend, but facts are unconvenient things ... this shooter at one time was seriously contemplating shooting up a college (Virginia Tech ring bells?) but for reasons all his own went after the people in this church saying he wants to trigger a race war. The facts are that schools, theaters and churches are among those many places that are either traditionally or by law "gun free zones" and therefore easy pickings. The question becomes "how do we stop these would-be mass murderers" before they can run up a body count? At Virginia Tech the shooter, Cho, was able to purchase firearms legally because the pertinent information on his mental state was withheld from the authorities. The Columbine shooters stole their weapons as the Sandy Hook did as well, and I'm finding conflicting stories on where and how Roof got his pistol. Some said his Dad gave it to him, others that he bought it (another failure like Cho's?) and still more say he stole it or stole it BACK from his mother. The solution will take more than one answer and will not be easy.

Hey y'all,
As you can tell I'm good for a drop in whenever I feel the news or politics of the day requires a good venting. In March of this year I applied for a permit to purchase a firearm. The problem is, I live in NJ. It's been three months and I haven't heard a thing from my local police department. I recently called to inquire about my application (after I jumped through the hoops, was fingerprinted, had references fill out ridiculous surveys about me, etc). I was told that the detective division was working on it and would be finished as soon as they can. In the meantime, four people were shot in drivebys a few miles from me last night and while our immediate area is not crime ridden, my wife feels uncomfortable walking down the street when she returns from her job or visiting her parents. This of course is a moot point as after my permit is finally approved and I purchase and register my new firearm, I cannot carry it on my person. We are hoping to move within the next year or two to a more freedom loving state, but in the meantime we feel stuck.
Matt

As you can see, the inmates are running the asylum. I used to think Virginia was relatively safe and free, but the loonies have put in Clinton buddy Terry McAuliffe, we have an Attorney General who is a dipped in blue liberal and the local governments, no matter the party, refuse to follow the will of the people.
WTF happened to this country?

Roseburg ... another gun free zone. Even the single security guard was unarmed except for pepper spray. My understanding is it took Sheriff's Deputies 8 minutes to respond to the 9-1-1 call. Once there they did what was necessary and put this wacko in a body bag, but could an armed citizen have stopped this asshole at some point? Perhaps, but we will never know.

And the Oregon Gov. promises more gun control.

Beware, Obama is again saying he "doesn't have the authority" to go around Congress to get his way. I foresee more government by Executive Order.

He can do a lot more damage in the days he has left. We impeached Clinton for lying about a blow job, for Chrissakes!
