As you may expect, this guy was way off his rocker. Looks like he was on a steadily increasing downhill slide when he conducted this attack. Still, at one point in his life, he was married, and he raised a daughter who is not either in her late twenties or early thirties. His pattern doesn't fit most of the lone gunmen patterns of being quiet, and withdrawn about his views. I'd be curious to see if his background looks more like a person about to commit suicide, withdrawing from family members, giving away possessions, "strange talk" about an end coming near. Either that, or maybe he was just some loser who wanted to be somebody by killing others. .................. In 2014, facing eviction from his Alabama home, John Russell Houser set out to make sure no one else could ever live in that house. He poured concrete down the drains and cemented the fuse box shut. He splattered paint and human waste all over the walls. news.yahoo.com/theater-gunman-built-reputation-angry-provocateur-064509522.html#

But...but...it's a "gun-free zone!"

and just who was it that said that? So, should we carry in churches, in theaters, in liquor stores, in shopping centers, any time, all the time, no matter where we are?Has our society deteriorated so much that we have to be ready to shoot somebody 24/7? Why not just pass laws that make it mandatory to carry a gun at all times, and be done with it?
I mean, everybody knows what model cities Tombstone and Dodge City (I've always thought they were two of the most appropriately named cities in the world, you know?) were in the 1800's, right? (Oh, wait. didn't they pass ordinances to prevent carrying a firearm in the city limits after that?)

I wonder why?
Is THAT the "solution"?
God. I'm sorry, man, but there's just GOT to be a better way.

No warrior, don't make it mandatory. Make it PERMISSIBLE for the law abiding to carry because there is no way to keep the criminals from doing it themselves. Make the animals have to consider the fact that they MIGHT end up facing someone with the means and ability to end their spree.
Sandy Hook school was "gun free" and the building itself was locked up from the inside except for the main entrance. That asshole was able to break in without going through that main entrance.
Your Aurora Theater was "gun free" but Holmes was able to get every weapon he wished inside.
The same things are true of nearly every other mass shooting scene. Often the system which is supposed to vet gun purchasers has failed because humans either forgot to or deliberately chose not to submit pertinent information to the authorities that might have stopped handgun purchases.
In other cases like Sandy Hook and the Columbine shootings the guns weren't purchased by the shooters but were stolen.
And in nearly every case there was no armed security on site. Shopping malls and schools don't normally have armed security, Paul Blart may be a movie joke but is also found in the real world more than I am comfortable with.
Frankly, the concept of a "gun free zone" is nice but is totally unrealistic and should be dropped IMHO. Allow concealed carry, don't keep the law abiding helpless.

Not yet, but it seems to be moving in that direction.
"I'm sorry, man, but there's just GOT to be a better way."
Let's hear it, Amigo.
In the meantime, I think it's time to apply for my CCW permit.

I don't like the idea of needing to carry a gun to church or to a theater. One thing I liked about my high school growing up was the fact that we didn't need a security team at the school, or needed kids to walk through a metal detector.
Maybe we should make it permissible for people to carry firearms at all times, but it sure is a sad state of affairs when that needs to be a consideration whenever we leave our homes.
What the hell happened to the people in our country to make them so desensitized towards killing their fellow citizens?
