The Navy is preparing to arm sailors at its reserve centers across the country in the aftermath of the attack last month at a Navy Reserve Center in Chattanooga that resulted in the deaths of 4 Marines and 1 sailor, officials said late Friday.
The Navy has authorized arming personnel at reserve centers that are not on military installations, such as the Chattanooga center, a Navy spokesman told Fox News.
Cmdr. William Marks said armed guards will be posted at the centers as “a matter of prudent and necessary action toward protecting our personnel.”
“The threat posed to military forces in the United States by homegrown violent extremists has increased,” Marks said.

I'm not certain dedicated armed guards are the way to go though it is a step easily taken. I can think of several other things that would help as well.
The real threat isn't to reserve centers but to the storefront recruiting offices that all the services maintain in malls and shopping centers arount the country. These are usually little more than open offices with a few desks and an office or two in the rear, an open invitation to anyone with a mind to commit mayhem. Stationing armed guards at each one probably isn't practical, but allowing personnel who have been screened for it to carry concealed in uniform or keep weapons readily available on the premises should, I think be considered.
Physical security could be boosted fairly easily; simple things like bullet resistant glass in the windows and doors to protect against drive-by shooters, electric locks on the doors so they can be secured in an instant from any position in the office, place a "service counter" with kevlar in the structure across the front of the office to provide a barrier personnel and visitors can take shelter behind, kevlar in the desk backs facing the door and windows for the same reason. Just thoughts off the top of the head.
