WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Some 50 years after John F. Kennedy's sole presidential term was cut short by an assassin's bullets, nearly three-quarters of Americans believe Kennedy will go down in history as an outstanding or above-average president. This is the highest retrospective rating given to any of the 11 presidents who have held office since Dwight Eisenhower. Another fifth of the public sees the slain president as average, while just 3% rank him as below average or poor. www.gallup.com/poll/165902/americans-rate-jfk-top-modern-president.aspx

The Kennedy Mystique, he was a good American but he was not what so many folks believe him to have been, godlike.

Good to see you, Prospero.
You're right. There is a mystique. A young, handsome man cut down in his prime by a man several cans shy of a six-pack armed with a $19.95 mail order rifle? It just reeks of mystique.
But I'd still take him over almost all of the Post World War II modern-era Presidents, hands down.

Even circumstantially if he'd have not been killed it surely would have made a world of difference. Vietnam may have been something else all together.

Would JFK have expanded that involvement as much as that fool LBJ did? And that's the thing, you see. Would Kennedy have committed to Vietnam the way Johnson did?
I doubt it. My opinion, but I doubt it. But we'll never know.
Vietnam and Watergate, man. Talk about getting both barrels....
