As nearly everyone knows we finally have a major hurricane stirring up trouble out over the Gulf Stream. Joaquin grew quickly over the last 48 hours from a Tropical Storm into a Category 4 storm which seems to have taken a liking to the southern Bahama Islands and parked there for a while. It's expected to get underway sometime tomorrow and move north. The current "cone of uncertainty" that NOAA uses to show predicted tracks currently has it missing Hampton Roads but even so it will likely add insult to injury as we are currently suffering a major rain event from a stream of tropical air moving up along the east coast from a point in the Florida Panhandle. This on top of a "Nor-Easter" storm last week. We still have coastal flooding from that. In the last week or so we've gotten more rain than we get during a normal summer, water tables are very high, the ground is saturated, some streets flooded and if we get stiff winds a lot of trees are going to come down because saturated ground won't hold them. We had the same problem before Hurricane Isabel visited a few years ago. Winds barely at Cat 1 brought down thousands of otherwise healthy and secure trees. Wish we could send some of this water out your way 101. I'm sure you folks could find a use for it. I'm sure this is going to throw a monkey wrench in my physical therapy schedule.

Yeah, hell, we'll take all we can get.
Hoping the El Nino is kind to us.
Stay safe over there on the other coast, Amigo.

Workin' on it shipmate. Looks now like Joaquin will pass us well off shore somewhere around half way between us and Bermuda. However, that is always subject to change.
Wife and I are ready whatever it does, icepacks on my ankle and all.

Mrs. 101's flight had wx delay out of Orlando through Charlotte.
Not all bad, since they bumped her to a later flight and put her in 1st class.

Charlotte isn't all that far from my sister's place. She was complaining about several of the roads being flooded out from the rain.
Hope Mrs 101 made it home okay.
