An observation concerning our myopic media and societal observation of Iraq. Throughout history small groups have always chosen to use violent antisocial methods to make a statement against the government. The Macabees opposed the Greeks and Persians and Barabas (an insurrectionist) opposed the Romans. The Druids and Celts also opposed the Romans. SinnFein and the IRA have used terror for over a century against the Brits. Recently, the Partisans opposed the Nazis. The Zionist blew up the Hotel King David killing 91 people and used terror bombings to help wrench the modern Israel from the British Palestine.
Is there any different from the insurrectionist Barabas from the insurgent Abu Musab al-Zarqawi or the Zionist “Irgun” leader Menachem Begin? They all have used murder to force a change in the public opinion.
Barabbas was chosen over Jesus when Jesus did not solicit to overthrow the Roman rulers. Rome responded with increased control and the total destruction of Israel 30 years later. This was done even after the Judaistic rulers sought appeasement with Rome.
Menachem Begin managed to persuade the Brits and the UN change its mind, but only after the US openly backed the formation of Israel.
Will al-Zargawi persuade the American and UN to leave?
Has society changed to the point where the murderous tactics of the insurgents are now a legitimate means to change public opinion?
It appears that society has said that as long as it “ain’t my back yard”, you can do what you want.
Insurrectionist: a person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions)
Insurgent: An insurgency is an armed rebellion by any irregular armed force that rises up against an established authority, government, administration or occupation. Those carrying out an insurgency are “insurgents”. Insurgents conduct sabotage and harassment. Insurgents usually are in opposition to a civil authority or government primarily in the hope of improving their condition.
Freedom fighter: those engaged in rebellion against an established government.
Guerillas (small combat groups who strike, harass and retreat),
Partisans (group of citizens organized to provide paramilitary service),
Militants (violent actors who do not belong to an established military)..
Mark 15: 6Now it was the custom at the Feast to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9"Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?" asked Pilate, 10knowing it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
