REPORT ON AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL DOMINANCE ABSTRACT Today academic scholars and observers of international affairs hail the United States of America as the world’s sole superpower. Others label the United States as a ‘hyper-power’. Still others claim the United States to be the lone hegemon of global politics. Indeed, a number of intellectuals rely upon this supposition as a fundamental anchor for their political arguments. While these various points of view may differ in conclusion, they have in common the underlying belief that the United States dominates the full spectrum of international relations. Necessarily, to categorize the United States as a “hegemonic power” there must be an understanding of the definitions and foundations of the concept of hegemony and how the said concept applies within the context of international interaction. While it may prove enlightening to understand this model in theoretical conception, it would prove practical to appreciate how this theory adjusts to the friction of political reality. Therefore, first will be established the common principles of hegemony through the analysis of the last hegemonic power, Great Britain.
