I think we've covered this before, but I thought I'd bring it back up.
How important is it for the President to have military experience?
To me it's not that important. The President has a plethora of militry advisors to keep him informed of the best strategy for victory in case of a war.

Military service can develop leadership skills and strength of character.
I think there is value in it for the C in C, but it shouldn't be the main reason to vote for or against an otherwise qualified candidate.

I think only an EM should be elected prez!! Professional Military People are another question?

Well I see so far we have a pretty good consensus of 4 votes for 'important'.
I think 101 summed it up best that the military sharpens one's skill to lead, but Remey brings up a interesting point.
Officers are the ones who are given responsibility to lead and take charge all the time so they are more often than not the best leaders you can find in the military. A enlisted man though, has to rise through the ranks and establish himselp as a leader of his people.
The enlisted man may have the edge in hands on experience, and perhaps better people skills from working with and not over everyone, but the officers in the end are the best and brightest so they always make the better candidates.
