This Nevadan says hell no.
Former President Jimmy Carter was in Carson City, the state capital of Nevada, to support his son's announcment that he will run for the US senate.
All of about 350 people came out to listen to what Jack Carter had to say. Most of what he said had nothing to do with his opponant, first term Senator John Ensign, and centered around national issues from the war in Iraq, to the governments response to hurricane Katrina.
I didn't make it out to see this, but read about it in today's paper. From what I read of Carters speach I didn't agree with most of it.
From the article.
Jack Carter criticized the decision to go to war in Iraq: "Our invasion of Iraq has been one faulty political decision after another, punctuated by some brilliant military exercises by our troops," he said.
And he said Bush has overstepped his executive authority in spying on Americans without seeking a court order under the procedures Jimmy Carter signed into law in 1978.
"I don't want any president to decide on his own that I or my family need to be watched," he said
Most of all what I don't like is the fact that this guy's been a Nevadan for all of three years and has lived all three years in Las Vegas. This hardly sounds like a man that can represent the values of most Nevadans. While the paper didn't give numbers, they said early polls had Carter trailing Ensign badly. That's too be expected up here, but I worry about how Vegas will swing. I don't want some Hillary Clinton, "I'm a big name, but don't know anything about my state" Senator.
