You know, Bryant Gumbel is a very successful man. He has successfully topped many hurdles and achieved things few people will ever see.
So, the question is: why come out with a blatantly anti-white racist remark like he did??? He knows that qualifying for the Olympics is not subjective. Except for maybe ice skating, it's generally all about "the clock."
I don't know for sure, but I have a long-time Black friend who has blue eyes. He said he's kinda caught in the middle. He's shunned by many Blacks because he isn't "Black enough" and he's shunned by many whites because he's Black.
It's a weird situation to be in I'm sure.
Anyway, Bryant has really done well in the "White man's world." Moreover, I saw a clip of him holding hands with a beautiful blond white girl (no more than 2/3 his age).
When I stop and think about what his life must be like, I can hear the behind the scenes jeers from here.
I'll bet his remarks are aimed NOT SO MUCH at pissing off white people as to show other Black people that he hasn't caved. He's probably sick of being called names.
As I recall, OJ went through a lot of that too.

Like try not to be incredulous when someone tries to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. I think Bryant's comments were meant to be more of an attack on Repubicans. Either way, this is one hell of a lot worse than what got Rush Limbaugh fired. The lack of outcry is telling. |

And another thing... The US isn't the only country in the winter olympics, yet I don't see a lot of Blacks from other countries either. What do they have to do with the GOP? Does the vast right wing conspiracy spread to all the Nordic countries as well??? Hmmmmmm?  That was such a blatantly racist and idiotic thing to say. It fails the straight face test on many different levels. I'm having trouble getting past it. |

"Real Sports" hosted by a real idiot. Sitting here watching hockey and I can see they've excluded so many of the black stars from the NHL...what's that? there's only a couple of black NHL players? Well, what about all those black skiers? Oh, skiing isn't popular with Blacks? Well then were are all the Black Curlers?...Ummmm, I think I hear my mom calling....

Actually, the Nordic Chapter of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy re-opened just recently. The High Dragon Master of the Nordic Lands hasn't submitted his final roster nor his plans for world domination, so we can only speculate their involvement in the Olympics.  |
