In the news today I read that an Iraqi girl received free healthcare in the United States. Of course, she is not the first and probably will not be the last. She is not a citizen. Her loyalty and committment is to her own country - which it should be. I am also sure her health struggle is painful and tiring.
Yet - we have here demonstrated in plain view the total disregard for the American. How many here - or anywhere - have received free healthcare in the United States? In some form, we bear the burdens of our own health problems. Our elderly are ridden with hundreds of dollars of monthly costs. Younger families with sick children or parents accumulate massive debt to help one of their own overcome.
This is unjust. An Iraqi girl - with no connections to America, with no intention of becoming an American, and in no way furthering American society - has received free healthcare. She does not vote. She does not serve. She does not pay taxes. She does not provide anything. She is not the only one. Illegal immigrants are another example. They can rest assured that desperate, hard-working, and hopless Americans will make sure they are in good health.
While Americans work day in and day out, struggling to make ends meet and praying to God to see a family member through a health crisis - a faceless, unknown Iraqi girl exploits our genorisity and resources.
We will not long be a country if we fail to take care of our own.
