Of all the people responsible for that debacle he has the most guilt and they put back in office? Unbelievable.

Well he is the king of the welfare state...err, city, so all those loyal subjects will re-elect him. Beside, it's all Bush's fault. It's his fault the busses were left to be flooded, it's his fault an evacuation order wasn't issued, it's his fault that shelters weren't prepared, it's his fault...his fault...fault...
It's not the "Big Easy", it's the "City of Ass Clowns"!

The popular will can quickly become popular idiocy.

The Big Easy? I thought it was Chocolate City, you know the delicious drink mixture of chocolate and milk . How in the hell can anyone get away w/making a comment like that on top of his little fubar that directly lead to 1200 deaths and still get re-elected?
Maybe they thought they were voting for the stupidest mayor in history.

Just like jfree says... that place is FUBAR and has been for decades.
I cannot comprehend that they didn't learn a damn thing; NOT ONE DAMN THING!
Actually, when something THIS STUPID happens, there is a lot more going on.
I think sfcdoubel nailed it too.
Considering that a continuance of the government "gravy train" was assured no matter who won, in the end, race won the day for Nagin.
To many of the locals, the fact that 1,200 people died due to this idiot's incompetence is inconsequential as compared to other issues. As sfcdoubel says, people can easily rationalize away stupid little things like 1,200 people dying to protect their ideas about other, more important, issues.
Now that I see what happened, I'm surprised that this surprised me.

I don't know how these people can justify re-electing this man.
Does this show a growing tend towards racism in New Orleans? How do you explain making a blantantly racial comment like "Chocolate city" than get re-elected?

Hopefully, though I doubt it, people will choose othe destinations to vacation in and hurt the city financially. I realise that's a crappy way to feel considering the damage done but screw them. Every one is welcome in Florida!!!

Personally, I think the people of New Orleans got exactly what they deserved: an idiotic mayor.

dstaufer, you said exactly what I would. This also shows how many ignorant people live there. The next step is re-building of the city. They will do it on chemical soaked ground. I wonder when we see medical cases related to construction of houses in the wrong place. naturally they will blame the Federal government. We can count on Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton marching into DC.
Be careful. Thanks for Your service.

Let's not forget all the money that was earmarked for levee improvements in the past that was diverted to line pockets...I mean, to create economic improvements (Casinos) for the Peoples Republic.
You know, before deploying we got a 4 day pass and I met Kim there for the weekend. I gotta say that NOLA was a shithole then and I'm sure it ain't gunna get any better. Nothing to offer that I can't get in the Tampa Bay region...and not feel like I'm in a welfare state.
