The U.N. should be about the U.S.We provide 33% of the U.N.'s funding. We could easily threaten them to start doing good things, or we'll take their major source of funding away.(Dont people do the opposite and blackmail for bad purposes?) Where did you get that 33% nonsense?http://www.globalpolicy.org/finance/tables/reg-budget/assessedlarge05.htm I just spend time explaining why the USG does not want or need the UN to promote its interest. You come back with an incorrect dues figure. Try again.

Maybe he was talking about the"real" cost to the US when all the crime committed by the Star Wars Bar Crew is taken into account.
Naw, on second thought... 33% wouldn't BEGIN to cover that.

Nvm, I got the figure from a book I read while doing project on why we dont need the U.N.Old figures I guess. But it was never 33%. If you try googling you will find the US has been in arrears for quite a few years. The UN isn't for the US. It is for all countries. It cannot survive in any viable form without the US. But it would serve no purpose if it wasn't a forum for open discussion among all nations. You can't wish away the rest of the world. The problems of the world arrive in out airports every day.

Well, that's a good point, but it would be nice if they had to at least answer for their crimes.

Well, that's a good point, but it would be nice if they had to at least answer for their crimes. The US has been pushing through treaties against money laundering, conventional arms control and illegal narcotics. It has brought trafficking in people from accepted to public awareness. It is really astounding how much progress has been made. It is slow going - but standards have to get put into place. Money laundering for instance - the movement of funds by narcos, terrorists, organized crime syndicates. The fabled anonymous numbered Swiss bank account is a thing of the past - because of US efforts. We get the treaties together through the UN and once ratified, we provide experts to help set up infrastructures. This is a long term project. But there would have been no trials such as we've seen in the former Yugoslavia without continued US pressure to set standards.

Good. I'm glad to hear it.
I hadn't heard anything about this before.
