Between our interests in Turkey's NATO membership and Black Sea politics, and the on-going campaign in Iraq and its geopolitical importance, I doubt the Kurds will ever have an independent country.
Thoughts?

Not that I can add much to this, but I agree with you.
Turkey isn't going to give up any land and I don't see us dividing Iraq into a place where we only have the Shiites and Sunnis.
If we did that I'm sure either the Shiites or the Sunnis would than start making a ploy to be separate and demonstrate their resolve their more waves of attacks. A Kurdish nation just won't work right now.

turkey will not allow Kurdish state. One problem I see, if Kurds in the Nord of Iraq don't get what they want or are unwilling to deal with the present government, there is a possibility that Kurds may separate from rest of the Iraq. If that happens, we are in for long stay. Right now the possibility that happening is very low, but not impossible.
