Well, our nation is at grave risk. One of the main problems is we don't have the necessary leaders in the nation to stave off the problems I expect this nation to experience in the next few years. Later. Alas, we have been starved of true statemen like Ben Franklin...men who put the public interest above their own personal ambitions. We have seen too many who "have forgotten...that the law is not concerned to make any one class specially happy, but to ensure the welfare of the common wealth as a whole." Instead, we have been inundated with those, "quarreling for power, as if it were a great prize; whereas government can be at its best and free from dissention only where the destined rulers are least desirous of holding office." Both quotes from Socrates. For our nation to undergo fundamental change in attitude, it must turn to leaders who possess one.

George Washington. The Father our Nation. The Hero of our Revolution. AmericanPride, I'm the second vote behind you. George Washington had the opportunity to to king and turned it down, whereas some of the political beings that have been our president have acted as if they were the king.

Easily George Washington - the others don't even hold a candle to him. George Washington was the closest thing to God-on-Earth (save Jesus Christ) that we will ever see.
In an age of tyrants, monarchs, and oligarchs, Washington tossed aside his absolute power and pledged his life to the Repubic. He was America's Cinncinatus and shall always be studied as an example of how ALL Americans should act.
He is also the only reason that America exists today. For that we should always be grateful.

Mario, you must have misunderstood the question. It was NOT "Who was the US President who had the most members of his administration who were charged, convicted, or confessed to crimes against the United States." Now, that WOULD be Ronald Reagan.

I'm not going to take the bait, Eddie boy. Ronald Reagan was undoubtedly one of the greatest President we ever had. Little Adlai is a dwarf next to a great man like Reagan! Take care.

Seriously, FF is probably correct in picking Washington. He certainly showed qualities that NONE of the other presidents can claim. I mean hey, when in the hell was the last time a president actually led the troops into battle. Now, all that the recent chickenhawks do is direct others to go and die. Supposedly great presidents such as Lincoln and JFK have been shown to have had some serious faults. We all (should) know that it takes monumental events or happenings to allow a president to be "great" and in this respect FDR is the winner hands down. He led our nation during both it's greatest economic challenge and during a World War that was a true threat to our nation's very existence. But he also had faults and questionable methods, even if he honestly believed they were required during those troubling times. But when it comes down to it, Washington and FDR are the only two real choices.

But his policies during the great depression were so out of touch with economic reality that he unnecessarily prolonged a depression. Washington kicks his ass in a contest, as far as I'm concerned.

Tell us Mario, you say that FDR's "...policies during the great depression were so out of touch with economic reality that he unnecessarily prolonged a depression." So exactly how would you characterize the actions of Herbert ("We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land." 1928) Hoover and the GOP between 1928 and 1932?

Andrew Jackson was the last of the Breed. He was the last to stand against the formulation of what we now call the Federal Reserve.
