Russia and China are urging the UN to outlaw the development or testing of systems that can destroy space satellites. This comes only a year after China tested a satellite destruction system. They used a KillSat (Killer Satellite) that destroyed an old Chinese weather satellite, about 850 kilometers up on January 11th, 2007. That's at the upper range of where most reconnaissance satellites hang out. The impetus for this new enthusiasm over satellite destruction was the February 22nd, 2008 destruction of a broken U.S. spy satellite by a U.S. warship, firing an anti-aircraft missile modified to intercept ballistic missiles and, to the surprise of China and Russia, satellites in a low earth orbit (160-2,000 kilometers up)

HA! Poor babies. The Air Farce has its priorities, we have ours.
Modifying a TRIDENT SLBM as a satellite launcher is something I hadn't thought of though a number of early satellite launchers started as ICBMs (Atlas, Titan and so forth plus the Russian birds.)

HA! Poor babies. The Air Farce has its priorities, we have ours. Good on the Navy. It only makes sense they would be in for a bigger piece of the pie considering their mobility. They can launch from wherever they have certain ships located. The Air Force on the other hand, is restricted to a number of fixed locations. Seems logical to develop the Navy's capabilities to the maximum for a 'first line of defense' scenario.

Air Force made their priorities very restrictive. Few years ago there was an idea to have composite wings, however it was shot down. Looking at the current situation composite wings may not be such a bad idea, specially when we consider a menpower issues. With current situation Air Force need more airlift capabilities. Reserves and Air national Guards need bigger role. We also need to look at our current bases and Army posts and consider combining. I am sure that generals would have a fit if anyone would suggest that. The way things are going Air Force may disappear and Army Air Corps may be reviewed.

Peter! What are you thinking! The AF would never agree to combining with those lowly army types on an operation. Well, at least not let the army take a leadership role....

SFC, the way the Air Force is going it makes you wonder. I heard many things which may to come. This was one of them.
