"What were these lost parts?"
Air cleaner screw, Sissy bar bolt, nut, and a temple piece for my Wiley-x glasses.
Ironbutt's a little extreme although I've thought about attempting the 1000 miler. 1400 over four days wasn't bad at all except for the fucking heat in the valleys. Like riding through a blast furnace.
Traffic was a pain in the ass in a couple of places, even splitting lanes.
Actually I'm still contemplating a run to Sturgis this year. It's 1400 miles one way. Probably won't happen though, the time being the issue.

The route: This is pretty much the straight-line stuff exclusive of the side trips it's 1162 miles point to point, the rest of the miles are side trips, example: one mission (La Purissima) is 16 miles off the main highway, when I got there the gate was closed for the day so I had to return the next morning, add 64 miles. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

"...lil locktite may help" Yeah, hell...take all the damned adventure right out of it! Well, there's adventure and then there's ADVENTURE, like if something really really important departs the bike. I think I'll stay with 4 chunks of rubber and a ton or so of protection around me to protect what's left of my sorry ass if I or someone else fucks up or Murphy manages to nail me. There are days though... Blue Ridge mountains, fine weather... *sigh*

As a friend of mine who had a preference large American road cars used to say, "Surround my ass with iron and glass." Actually my favorite set of wheels was a '76 3/4 ton Chevy Van which I spend a good deal of time customizing (bed, carpeting, paneling, the whole 9 yards.) Even with the standard 350 small block with 4 barrel carb I averaged better than 20 mpg in it. The young lady I was dating and I (the eventual Mrs Sailor) spent a lot of time in it. Best part was I could see over 90% of the traffic around me and it was solid as a battleship. One night while I had it parked on the side of the street a drunk nailed it with his car, smacking into the left front bumper and went skidding down and across the street. I lost some paint off the bumper (I hadn't opted for chrome) and had less than $500 damage from creased fender and ruined wheel. His car was totalled. It broke my heart to have to sell that truck.
