Yep....went down today for the first time. I was on my group ride and having a lot of fun for the first hour or so. We were goin through northern Jersey and hit this really nice road with tons of twisties and no cars. It's just perfect in every way.
We're taking the twisties pretty aggressively (70-80) but they're not blind curves and you can see all around them. One curve though was really tight so the lead and I (I was second) slow down to make it. We go to speed up for the next twistie when all of a sudden I see the guy in front of me go down. Before I know what happened, my tires are freaking out and I'm sliding along the ground. Apparently there had been a ton of gravel that you couldn't see because of the sun glare. When I say a lot of gravel I mean a ton. The cops even got the DPW out there right away to clean up the road. The cop also said I could sue the city if I wanted to but I'm not going to.
So I'm sliding across the road and all I'm thinking is "I hope my gear holds up..." I finally come to a stop on the other side of the road (thank God there was no traffic) and all I can think about is how much money this will cost me. I have some holes in my jacket and my gloves are torn to shit but I really couldn't care about my gear at this point. The guys in the rear stop and make sure we're OK but I'm just upset over my bike at this point.
Cop comes, we fill out a report and ride home. I just dropped my bike off at the dealer and he said about $4,000 worth of damage. Thankfully insurance will cover it all. But no riding for like two weeks....I'm not sure if I can make it that long. I'll get pics up soon...some guy had a camera with him so he took pics of the wreck.
I'm fine (little sore in the right shoulder and knee) but my bike isn't. I wanted to cry when I saw her all scratched up. I just can't wait to get back on the road. I know some guys crash and they freak out and never wanna ride again. I just can't wait to get my girl back tho. I already miss her
All of the guys there said that there was nothing we could have done. My friend and I went down while only going like 25-30 mph...there was no way we could have avoided the crash. My friend is really experienced too....been riding for yearse and has tons of track days under his belt.
As they say, "it's not if, but when". I'm just glad that's over and done with....
