I have been hanging out on a website that has a forum where they build small travel trailers, called "teardrops". They look like this: I have never owned an RV but based on their price, size (towability), and flexibility I have been planning on building one for a few months now and I am planning on starting soon. Major factors include: Fast Build Time (they have one you can do in a weekend) Price (much cheaper than an Airstream, almost as cheap as tent camping!) Light weight (like towing a small U Haul trailer - no special tow vehicle needed) I posted my proposed design on the forums and had EVERYBODY telling me how I should build my trailer, from the size of the trailer to the size of the windows to trading in my car for a bigger tow vehicle, and the inescapable "resale value". Over the years I have found that it is just plain stupid to buy something with the thought that someone else might want to buy it. You have to be happy with it yourself or there won't be any point to it. I have owned my BMW motorcycle for 15 years and still have it. Resale hasn't been an issue so far but I have had a blast with it over the years. I guess I asked for it, but taste is taste. This is what I want - this is what I will build. With all the expenses I have had I am lucky to have made it this far.

Cute!
The Trailers OK too.
Feel free to post your plans and designe here. I've always loved the classic teardrop. I bid on a fully restored 1950's one with a 56 Chevy Nomad tow vehicle a year or two ago. I stayed with it until the bidding went past $25k. I'd have gone higher but Mrs 101 put the kabosh on it.

I assume you are not talking about the dog... That particular body shape is called the "Cubby". Here's the url for the teardrop forum: www.mikenchell.com/forums/They have plans for a tear from 1947, plus an updated version, and just about everything from soup to nuts. I am planning on a custom "Cubby" design. The Benroy is okay but a little too boxy looking for my taste, especially if it's going to be seen behind my car.

I pick up my trailer, tomorrow, 101. There's a Northern tool and supply near us and they sell the same trailer that Harbor Freight sells, only without the wheels. By the time you buy the wheels at Northern Tool or pay for the shipping at Harbor Freight it comes out a wash. I'll be teardropping in no time.

I thought that looked like the same framework.
I was looking at one for a bike trailer but I need one that fold up and get out of the way when I'm not using it.
Have fun!

The Northern Tool and Harbor Freight trailers are both folders, if we are talking about the same one...
The one in the picture above is the Harbor Freight version, modified so that it won't fold.

He BOUGHT one?
Some of the store bought ones are really nice. You wouldn't happen to know which one, would you?
Yeah, you find out how strong your marriage is after a night like that...

I'll try and find out the info for you and I'll post it here. I do know his wife had conniptions over the price he paid for it.
He used to pull the little thing with his F-150 but last year he bought a hitch rig for his Gold Wing bike and he uses that now .
