I have never been to one of those game places, we always paintballed in the streets, course thats when I was a teenager.
We played in cars and shot out the window, our driveby training. Nowadays youd get in big trouble for that.
It really sounds like fun to have an actual game field and score setup.

I used to play in jeans. The last time I got my worse hit. On the inside of my thigh, right near the femoral artery. I pretty much stunned me. Since then I wear BDU's. I don't like playing speed ball, since I'm old and slow now :-) . I'm going to upgrade my marker when I get back. Oh, by the FF, you never shoot over an obstacle, always around the side. And if posible, switch sides at irregular intervals. I didn't know you were that hard-core SFC. What marker do you have? Most places fordbid you to shoot over obstacles unless you can actually see where you are shooting. And in order to do that you have to lift your whole head up. I just recently got into Speedball but I love it. I'm definitely gonna start playing more of it this summer. Is paintballing big in the military? Because I just spend all this money on gear/gun so I hope people in the USAF play.

I wouldn't call myself "Hardcore". I just have fun. I have a Pirahna. It's a few years old and a bottom end one but it's upgradeable...or, at least it was when I got it.
Field rules are usually, no blind firing around corners, no pointblank shots ("Surrender" rule). Safety is always first.
It's very popular. The MWR on some bases rent gear and you may be able to use the MOUT site. I like Woods ball best since a sneaky bastard like me usually does better. You know, old age and guile will overcome youth and enthusiasm any day!

The first and only time I played was in a t-shirt and shorts. Here's how it started.
My team was situated on one side of a creek, with plenty of trees for cover. We were on a hill, and the creek was down in a small valley. The other team was on the hill opposite from us. They were only about 200 yards away. So I'm moving out from behind my huge tree, popping off shots at the opposing team, when all of a sudden, I get nailed in the back of the neck. "Sorry," I hear, as I turn around. Great, friendly fire.
Hours later, on a new speedball field...
I had ran out of ammo during this speedball game, and I was completely pinned down behind a huge log. My teammate was next to me, and as he stood up to run to new cover, he gets shot. Great, I thought. So a couple seconds later, I stand up and make a break for the other side of the speedball field, where there is another large log. It was about 100 yards away. I run and run and run, and I'm almost there. Paintballs fly by me, and I didn't once get hit. I'm at the log, and I dive for it. In a spectacularly sad slow-motion Band of Brothers moment, I feel a punch in the back as a paintball slams into me in mid-dive.
That sucked.
But in the next round, I made what I thought (and still think) was a great shot. Between two plywood bunkers, there was a very tiny sliver of space where they were not connected. My friend, who was on the other team, had tripped and was lying face up. I fire over the top of my bunker, through the tiny sliver of space, and hit him in the ribs as he searches for his Spyder.
Later in that round, one of the opposing team members was walking through a wooded area of the field, crouched, attempting to make as little noise as possible and ambush our teammates. However, he did not realize that he was the one walking into an ambush. All of a sudden, five teammates pop out from behind the trees and open up on him. He managed to stumble into the "out of bounds" zone, where one goes when they are out, but not before he pulled off his shirt, exposing a large number of immense welts throughout his entire torso.
I wouldn't mind playing again, though.
