Is there still a racial bias in pro sports? In the NFL there is not as much attention to what the race of a QB is anymore, but Rev Jesse Jackson and the NAACP can still be heard complaining about not enough black head coaches in the league. In Baseball there is not much vocal criticism of race. NAACP once again is unhappy that there aren't more black managers though. In Basketball you have perhaps the one sport the NAACP doesn't bitch about. I wonder why.  Any thoughts on this? |

Professional Sports in general is a joke. I would rather watch college football, baseball and basketball, even gymastic and wrestling matches over any pro sports today. Hockey is a joke, pro-basketball should be abolished, baseball is falling in the court of public opinion!

I don't know if there is any racial bias "in" pro sports but do know that there is racial bias in many of the spectators. And I'm one of them. Although I greatly admire the ability of the really good black players I would much prefer to watch a BB game that does not have all 10 guys acting like jungle bunnies and playing their version of ghetto basketball. Yes, I know that's not PC, but that's the way I look at it. I cannot believe the free pass that blacks get when it come to the NBA. The same clowns who bitched about "equal representation" on the court, in coaching, and in management have no problem now that about 80 percent of the players come from 20 percent of the black population. Funny how things change, isn't it? Again, don't get me wrong, I don't think that any of the really good black players should be replaced because of race percentage or color. But the assholes who DID bring it up in the past when blacks WERE under represented did use that argument. And now they are silent and that makes them phony. Another of my pet peeves is the BCA (black coaches association) and how they also get a free pass from the media. Just imagine if a WCA (white coaches association) were formed. Holy shit....they would be ostracized and damned as the worst thing on the face of the earth by the jack-off's in the media. I must not "get" it and am simply an angry old man. |

Baseball is owned by Latinos, Football is pretty mixed and Basketball is 99% black. Sure, the QB position is still dominated by whites but that's because its the only position on the field that makes you use your brain.... ;D |

College games can be more appealing, espesially if you go to a small school like Nevada that doesn't have to deal with the media and speculation on being paid off, or "tutored" through school so your still in the line up. Other than the Patriots the NFL champion anybody who can buy a good team for a year and release the players the next. Baseball is about who can get the most bang for their buck and see if it out does the Yankees (Marlins 2003). Basketball has gotten horrible since MJ left the Bulls and lockout. I don't really follow Hockey, but with no NHL season this year I'd expect them to loose a substantial amount of money over the next decade. I guess when compared to that College ball does seem a little better to watch. |

My post was actully pointing out that even though blacks are in prosports in great numbers now there is still whinning that it's not quite equal to blacks. How much where the Lions fined by the NFL for not interviewing any black coaching canidates? $500,000 I believe. |

As for the Lions, they did get fined $200K when Matt Millen hired Steve Mariucci without interviewing any black guys. What a bunch of shit. There is no way that the Lions could not have beaten that in court. Except that then the NFL would have put the Lions on their shit list along with Al Davis and the Raiders!

It's still a ridiculas amount of money to fine a team, espesially since the lions did contact minority canidates who than refused to be interviewed because they knew Mariucci would be hired. |
