Many here may have heard of Pat Tillman. The Safety of the Arizona Cardnals who walked away from a 1.2 million dollar contract to join the army following the Sept. 11th attacks. Tillman was killed in a friendly fire incident in Afganistan a year ago. A new piece of the story has come up that I didn't know about. Tillman served a tour in Iraq and could have gotten discharged early to go back to the NFL. He choose instead to live up to the three year enlistment he signed with the Army and go on another tour. Few could be so selfless as this man. www.nfl.com/news/story/8391852

While it's admirable that he walked away from a million dollar contract, I see him as no better or worse than any of the brave men and women who have given their lives without question. Tillman himself didn't see himself as any better. For that reason he refused to do interviews becaused he thought it would take away from the same risks the man next to him was putting forth. I do not wish to diminish the risk these men take who sign up to be in harms way. But to have no worries, to be enjoying a life where you could have any whim satisfied, and walk away to fight the way Mr. Tillman did makes for a good story.
