The NFL draft has come and gone and one of the biggest stories was that of QB Aaron Rogers out of Cal U.
Rogers had initially been projected as a top pick in the draft, many at first thought that the 49ers would take him first overall. Soon though, Alex Smith of Utah caught the 49ers eye and never let go. Smith was taken with the first overall pick, and Rogers had to wait in a room reserved for top prospects and watch it empty as team after team didn't call his name.
There was a point when Rogers conceived that he may slip into the second round until the Green Bay Packers selected him with the 24th overall selection. There was much hoopla and celebration as people cheered Rogers getting out of that room that had been emptied some time ago. Rogers has said that he thinks the situation has worked out great and he can't wait to learn from future hall of famer Brett Favre.
There lies the problem though. Favre is a icon to the people of Green Bay. For about 12 years of so now he has not missed a single start. He grit and toughness have endeered him to many fans. He led the Packers to two SB apperances with the francises first victory in neary thirdy years.
Now how do you fill those shoes? Many have been is similar situations and most have failed. Is it the pressure that gets to them. The fact that when they don't make that perfect throw will bring instant criticism of how they are no Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, John Elway.
Rogers may have actually gone from bad to worse in this draft day. If he had gone to a low profile team, than he would have played as he was meant to. Now he will be more scrutinised by people who will expect nothing less than the hall of fame skills that are leaving.
