One of the main candidates for this years AL MVP award is Red Sox DH David Ortiz (SP?)
I'm aware that the man has provided many big at-bats for Boston this year, but I can not rationalise giving such a big award to someone who spends half the game spitting sunflower seeds in the dugout.
EDIT:

I absolutely hate the way that baseball handles the MVP award now. Ever since they gave A-Rod the MVP award when he was on the RANGERS (who finished last place), I've just been disgusted. If Ortiz gets it I'll be even more upset. He played for a team that was in 1st place for 99% of the year. They were literally only out of 1st place for 2 of the first 158 or so games. Then at the end of the year they choke and finish in last place. Then they go play the ChiSox and get the crap beat out of them. How is Ortiz possibly the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. That is what MVP stands for (in case everyone forgot). It is not the BEST PLAYER. If we handed out an award for BEST PLAYER, I'd consider Ortiz. But IMHO, MVP should always be given to a player on the team that wins the World Series. In some cases it should be given to other teams though. For example, if the Chisox lose the WS, one of their players still needs to win because of how much better they played this year as compared to last. Or perhaps someone on the Cards should win for how well they played this year as well. But God help me if MLB gives the award to someone in a last-placed team. I'm just gonna flip out.... O....as for the vote I voted no

O....as for the vote I voted no I disagree FF. This is a award that's handed to a individual and is a individual accomplishment not a team one. The team that wins the WS gets the trophy and a parade and the best player during thge WS gets the WS MVP. I definitly can handle A-Rod getting the award more than Ortiz just because at least he played SS all three years he was there, proving his skills in the field while Ortiz sat on his fat ass in the dugout waiting to waddle up to the plate. Getting back to the award though. It's to be given to the best player in their respective league. More often than not the best player always plays on a team that does better than finishing last, but in the years that A-Rod won he was undeniably a top candidate. He always produced for the Rangers and it seemes that the players around him were just to incapable of producing anything to support him. To say that the award should be based on a teams standing takes away from the purpose of the award.
