For 200K years Neanderthals existed.
Were they really humans?
Are they really part of our ancestry?
If you believe in reincarnation...[need I finish that one?]

I honestly don't know why Christians (and their counter-parts) spend so much time on the origin of humanity. Does it really change anything if God didn't create us but rather we evolved from monkeys?
Personally, I think it's stupid to believe that humans have only been around for 10,000 years. There is plenty of scientific proof to show that humans have been around for much longer than that. However, who cares how long humans have been around? If one day scientists can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we came from monkeys, does that change anything? Does it somehow prove that Jesus didn't exist and that He didn't rise from the dead?
Honestly I'm not sure why so many people waste their time with this issue.

I suspect it might be that some of those who wanted to 'prove' humans evolved from apes, wanted to prove that humans weren't created by God. Personally, I don't see the whole issue being a problem, unless someone would think that because we evolved, that humans have no soul. Or that apes and humans have the same soul. I don't see why God couldn't have chosen to put a soul in man when he evolved to the point where he became human. Anyways, the theory of evolution still has the burdon to prove (if that's some of their agendas) that God wasn't the First Cause.
