I can tell you from first hand experience that Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Norfolk and area) has trouble with CAT 2 storms. At the first hint of a 4 or 5 I'm tossing the "bail out kit", cat and Mrs in the van and heading for Dad's old place up in the Michigan woods. I'm a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. Ann (Mrs) was born and raised in hurricane country in Florida and so has a lot of experience in riding these things out. Each year we put together a "kit" of food, water and sundries and a list of stuff to grab, toss in the van and go. Could a hurricane gain or maintain a 4 ot 5 status as far north as Boston? While I've never heard of it I suppose it's possible if the storm stays over the warmest parts of the Gulf Stream. Let's hope we never find out. |

We rode out a Cat 2 once and that was bad. I have some shots that I took of one of our cans with the bow buried in the green foam and the twin screws out of the water. A friend on that boat FF1063 said that he was walking on the ceiling. PUKE CITY!  |
