My mother's family are all multigenerational Democrats. All are devote conservatives and very stiff-necked opinionated people. One uncle made Archie Bunker look like a saint. My grandfather was a judge appointed by Roosevelt.
With the exception of voting for the donkey, their philosophies about American would make many of us seem liberal.
So why do we only hear from and see those powerful fringe Democrats that run the Party if there are god-fearing conservative minded people holding some of the seats?

I would venture to say that is because the Democratic Party was hijacked by left-wing radicals after the 1994 elections, perhaps even after the 1992 elections.
Like you, my family is very conservative and vote Democratically. When I became "politically aware" as a teenager, I tended to side with the Republican Party, which made me an "outcast," of sorts, in my family.
Today, it is my opinion that both political parties have been--to one degree or another--"hijacked" by their fringe elements. Again, that's just my own opinion.

I am a Zell Miller Democrat!
That's about three steps to the Right of today's Republican party.

"I would venture to say that is because the Democratic Party was hijacked by left-wing radicals after the 1994 elections, perhaps even after the 1992 elections."
Actually, the hijacking was in 1972, when the McGovernites commandeered the Democratic Convention.
Since that time, I've watched the party of Jefferson and Jackson move steadily to the left.
As Reagan said, I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.

Thanks for the info, 101ABN, about the `72 Democratic Convention... somehow, I had forgotten about that.
The party of Jefferson and Jackson may have started moving to the left after the 1972 convention, but since 1992 and 1994 they have been running -- with great zeal, I might add.
I mean, electing someone the likes of Howard Dean to be party chairman? C'mon... that's just stupid! Of course, you already know that. LOL

Occurred shortly after Jimmy Carter was chosen as the Presidential candidate at the 1976 DNC. He turned and held out his hand to Teddy K. Teddy looked at his hand and turned and stormed off the stage.
That is where I believe the DNP went wide Left. Idiots like Deanie the weenie now help to formulate opinion and Al Sharpton is praised for racist hate speech. Something has got to give.
I am afraid that the media has helped to shape this election as the hand over to those far Left Dems.

All Democrats are bad.
All Republicans are bad.
They are the architects of disunity and discord. They act not in the interest of the American People, but for the gain of their fiefdom. It is political piracy legitimized by law. If my interest were solely that of wealth and power, I would choose either party based on my place of birth or family connections. I do not believe in the ideas they profess - if promises were fulfilled, new ones would have to be invented. They are not concerned by the Great Questions facing us - they are entirely consumed with the next election. They are an evil within.
There is only one legitimate party - and that is the American people.

As Reagan said, I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me. This is exactly right. The Democrats had been generally more liberal in terms of government programs, etc., since Woodrow Wilson, and even more after FDR (before Wilson, the Democrats were definitely the more conservative party). But presidents like FDR, Truman, Kennedy, etc. still knew the importance of defense, etc. and took relatively conservative positions on social issues (not that there was much of a serious push to destroy our social institutions from within before the 1960s). It was in '72 when the "New Left" radicals began to get a foothold in the Democratic Party. Just look at John Kerry's past right after he came home from Vietnam. These people, whatever they might say, don't have any interest in defending our soil or our institutions whatsoever. Most of the old-guard Democrats, whether conservative or liberal, have died, retired, or switched parties by now. I could be persuaded to vote for Zell Miller or even Joe Lieberman (depending on who he was running against). That's about it. There were a few other Democrats that I admired up until recently, but who have disappointed me with their dishonesty about the way Bush is pursuing the war on terror (like Evan Bayh). Even he has done his share of pandering to the anti-war radicals.

Lieberman has some guts ... have to admit that. I would have and will support a McCain/Lieberman ticket.

I would also, seems that Joe is the only one left that hasn't lost his mind. But, there's no way the powers that be would have a Jew in such high office. No, I haven't lost my mind. :-) think about it, with all that's going on in the asscrack of the world how well would that be received by people around here (here as in, the asscrack)?

Those in the "asscrack" would either soil their loin clothes (Isn't that what they wear under those long, baggy man-dresses?), collectively fart, and/or rupture a hemorrhoid.
I think "Old Joe" is the most level-headed Democrat (I know little of Zell Miller) out there. Biden can be level-headed, at times, if he truly wants to.
I'm gonna keep me eye on McCain, Allen, and Lieberman ... just to see what happens.

There are roughly 14 million Jews globally, the majority (about 6.5 million) live in the US ( a larger population that in Israel). If the stats are correct from the US Census and Worlds Religions pages, The Jewish population is about the smallest minority in America. Yet, the near majority minorities, African American (Black) and Hispanic (Mexican) account for nearly 40% of the 295 million Americans. Us WASPs account for only 18%, isn't it time that both the Jew (2.2%) and the WASP get minority status? Isn't it time the playing field was leveled?
