If God cannot lose, why oppose Him?
If God cannot fail, why test Him?
If God and His laws are absolute and infinite, how can we have loyalty to anything else?
Even Lucifer has a place in God's plan.
Everything we know is finite. God is infinite. Nothing on earth has any comparison to Heaven or Hell.
We are destined to fall short of the glory of God. Nothing we do can change that.
No man has greater love than he who gives his life for his friends. Does this mean physical life or spiritual life?

Because both humans and angels are imperfect creatures. They are therefore guilty of rage, jealousy, arrogance, etc. Attempting the impossible (or seemingly impossible) has been a staple of mankind. It's why this country is around today.
Again, because humans/angels are imperfect and can be arrogant. When Lucifer tested God and rebelled against him, it might have been the first example of humanity's arrogance but itw was certainly not the last. Yes, I realize Lucifer isn't a human being but you get the idea.
Because Lucifer tempts us to do evil and we willingly follow him. Without the presence of Lucifer we wouldn't be tempted and therefore wouldn't sin so we would have loyalty to God and God alone.
God created Lucifer knowing full well what would happen. He allowed this to happen for a reason, obviously.
I think when Jesus said this, He was referring to your physical life. I don't think God would ever ask for you to give up your spiritual life (e.g. commit sin) to save the life of another person. Evil for good purposes is still evil in God's eyes.

James --
This is the dilemma as I see it:
We are imperfect. Therefore, we will always fall short of the Glory of God, and nothing we do will make us worthy of His presence.
Yet, on the other hand, we "know" that God is absolute and eternal, therefore any "opposition" - active or passive - will ultimatly result in failure also.
So - the dilemma - why praise God if we can never share in his Glory, but why resist God if He can never be "overcome"?

The one i like: Can God make a rock bigger than what he can lift? Anwer: He wont do anything outside his character.
God is the epitome of Selfishness.
